Association for Migration Research

Göç Araştırmaları Derneği (GAR) / Association for Migration Research is an independent civil society organisation based in Istanbul, dedicated to producing rights-based, critical and interdisciplinary knowledge on migration, displacement, and social cohesion. Founded by migration scholars, GAR works to strengthen dialogue between academia, civil society, artists, and communities, while amplifying the voices and experiences of displaced people. GAR leads research, public engagement, and arts-based initiatives across Turkey. Its work includes large-scale cultural projects such as support of Öteki Hikâyeler (The Other Stories) book publication, the REBLOOM Festival, which brings migrant artists together with local communities, the Living Together Summer Art Camp supporting youth resilience through creativity, and EGEHUB, a participatory migration memory and art programme in the Aegean region. By combining academic rigor with artistic practice and community participation, GAR fosters inclusive public spaces, counters misinformation, and contributes to more democratic and empathetic understandings of migration.
