Autonomous Cultural Centre
Autonomous Cultural Centre Attack (ACC Attack) is a non-profit, non-governmental citizens’ association active in the fields of independent culture and youth work. Founded in 1997, the organisation operates according to D.I.Y. principles, fostering cultural, political and economic alternatives and providing an open public space for artistic, social and civic engagement beyond mainstream frameworks. ACC Attack has been continuously supporting and shaping the independent cultural scene at local, national and international levels through interconnected programmes such as art festivals, alternative music events, film and theatre productions, visual arts and gallery programmes, as well as educational and creative activities for children, students and young people. Since 2009, ACC Attack has been based in the former Medika factory, which it develops as a socially engaged cultural and community centre. The space functions as a platform for civil society initiatives, subversive and experimental art practices, activist education and knowledge exchange. As a key stakeholder in Zagreb’s independent cultural scene, ACC Attack actively promotes alternative art forms and socially engaged cultural practices. The organisation places strong emphasis on inclusion and accessibility, implementing programmes with and for marginalised groups such as refugees, migrants and seniors, as well as community-based and decentralised cultural initiatives in peripheral urban areas and on islands. ACC Attack is guided by the belief that culture must remain a common good, accessible to all regardless of place of residence, ethnicity or economic status.
